Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Newton and Cora Smith Adair. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and retired from Ware Shoals School District #51 after many years of service. She continued to operate Reedy River Farm Supply. She was twice married, first to the late Gerald Royden Mitchell, Sr.
Surviving are: two sons, Gerald (Diane) Mitchell, Jr of Ware Shoals, and Jimmy (Glenda) Mitchell of Huntsville AL, a daughter, Vickie (Will) Bailey of Ware Shoals, three step-daughters, Linda Roach, Jane Blackwell and Bennie Henderson, a brother, Ralph (Kris) Adair of N. Charleston, six grandchildren, Cory and Jaryd Mitchell, Kalen Warden, Jason Davis, Body and Cole Mitchell, and three great-grandchildren, Avari and Cilla Mitchell and Sarahbeth Davis.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by a step-daughter, Frankie Tumblin, seven brothers, Allen, Calvin, Ernest, Henry, Cecil, Carrol, and Wilford Adair, her sister, Willie Hughes, and a grandchild, Brian Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Marcus Bishop, Dr. Bruce Ostrum, and Rev. Frank Northcutt, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
