Born on November 24, 1927, Pop as we called him, was member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Sandy Springs and attended Chiquola Baptist Church. He was retired from Greenwood Mills.
He was twice married, first to the late Grace Stone Phillips, and then to the late Vivian Hall Phillips. He is survived by two sons, Danny R. Phillips and wife Brenda of Honea Path and Douglas Alexander and wife Pat of Honea Path. Step Children, Tommy Black, Jean Dixon and husband Wayne, and Sue Black and husband Doug of Alabama. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Daniel and Drew Phillips, Terry Alexander, Mark Alexander, and Melinda Chapman. Step Grandchildren, Greg Dixon, Andy Dioxon, and Adam Black. Also surviving are thirteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Mr. Phillips is also survived by sisters, Lois Phillips, Katie Bell Lollis, Betty Malone, Hazel Holliday, and Ruth Gunnells, and brothers, Clyde and Claude Phillips. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Nancy and two sisters and four brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 4 P.M. Sunday at Eastview Cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Powell officiating.
The family is at the home of a son, Danny Phillips, 109 Central Avenue and will receive friends after the service at the graveside. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials made to Mt. Tabor Baptist Church 5901 S.C. 187, Anderson, SC 29625 or to Chiquola Baptist Church Crisis Meals Fund.
