She was born in Anderson County and attended public schools in Honea Path. She received her AB degree from Limestone College, Gaffney, South Carolina, and did graduate work at the University of South Carolina and George Peabody College, Nashville Tennessee. She taught in the public schools of South Carolina and retired from the Chatham County Georgia School System in Savannah. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Honea Path, the Faith Sunday School Class, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Boonesborough Historical Society, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Thomas was an accomplished artist as well as a noted genealogist. She helped family and friends in researching their ancestry.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Emily Russell, Freeland, MI; Ann Shirley Church, Lawrence, KS; Shirley McCarty, Arlington, VA; Dwight Pettus, Arden, NC; Joe N. Pinson, Murrells Inlet, SC; James W. Pinson, Honea Path, SC, and James P. Perry, Arlington, VA.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by brothers, W. Ansel Pinson and Joe N. Pinson, and sisters, Lucy Davis, Annie Laurie Pettus and Shirley Perry.

The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Honea Path. Mrs. Thomas will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at East View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Pruitt Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
