Newport News – CWO3(Ret) Charles E. Thompson, 86, of Newport News, passed away December 7, 2013. He was born December 13, 1926 in Honea Path, S.C. and was a Newport News resident for over thirty years. He retired from the United States Army after 28 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam Wars.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Mary Kathryn “Momma Mary” Thompson, his parents, Clarence and Nellie Thompson; two brothers, Wilton and Carroll Thompson.
Charles is survived by his sons Michael Thompson and his wife Valery of Tucson, Arizona and Keith Thompson and his wife Susan of Rockville, Virginia.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Greenwood, S.C, with Rev. Floyd Parker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Baby’s Birth Day Fund at the Riverside Foundation, Denbigh Professional Park, 608 Denbigh Boulevard, Suite 700, Newport News, VA 23608.
