Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Richard Marion and Gertrude Ellen McGaha Hughes. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was retired from Glen Raven Mill of Anderson.

Surviving are his wife of the home, two sons, Steven Hughes and wife Kim of Anderson and Rev. Mark Hughes and wife Sonja of Anderson, one brother Bobby Hughes and wife Doris of Honea Path and one sister; Annette Hughes Rogers and husband Duane of Williamston and four grandchildren, Jennifer, Ashley, Lindsey, and Hannah Hughes. He was predeceased by brothers, Gary Hughes, Wesley Hughes and R.T. Hughes and sisters, Bessie Lee Kay, Sarah Gambrell and Elizabeth Harvey.

Funeral services will be 5 PM Monday at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Smith and Rev. Mark Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories with Rev. Eric Shuler officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 P.M. Monday at Southside Baptist Church prior to the service. The family is at the home.
