Ware Shoals- John Warren Haynes, 93, husband of Ethel Duckworth Haynes, of 27 N. Greenwood Ave. Ext. died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Laurens County Health Care.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late John A. and Nannie Gambrell Haynes. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge #306 A.F.M., and the VFW. He took part in the Battle of Normandy on D-Day during WWII while serving in the Army. He lived in Bennett, NE for 33 years until his retirement, when he returned to his home town, Ware Shoals, to be with his family, whom he loved and enjoyed spending time with.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home, are a foster son, James O’Shields, of Ware Shoals, a daughter; Dorothy L. Padgett, of Laurens, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held 4 P.M. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Ware Shoals First Baptist Church, with Rev. Leon Jones officiating. Members of the VFW will be honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
