Greenville- Ellen Montine Boyce Thompson, 102 years old, formerly of Ware Shoals, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, Diamond Health and Rehab of Simpsonville, S.C.
Born in Belton, S.C. on July 9, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Jesse E. and Mallie Cothran Boyce. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William Wallace Thompson, daughter Dolores Thompson Stone, and son-in-law Gary Pruitt Stone of Summerville, S.C.
Montine was trained in New York City as a newspaper linotype operator after graduating Valedictorian of her high school class. She spent most of her married life working alongside Wallace on their family dairy farm. She was the oldest member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, Ware Shoals. She played the piano at Mt. Bethel for over 50 years, and taught Sunday school there for as many years. She started the first Women’s Society at the church.
Surviving is her daughter; Jennie (Gary) Ray of Greenville, S.C.; Grandchildren, Michael Ray of Lexington, S.C., Andrew (Emily) Ray of Anderson, S.C.; and Great-Grandchildren, Jacob and Audrey Ray of Lexington, S.C.; Wallace and Sadie Ray of Anderson, S.C.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 10th 2013 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Playground Fund, Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, Dot Sullivan, 1081 Dairy Road, Ware Shoals, S.C. 29692 or Alice Smith Sunday School Class, First Baptist Simpsonville, 3 Hedge Street, Simpsonville, S.C. 29681.
