Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Watson and Mamie Cummings Gambrell. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, and was retired owner of Gambrell’s Masonry. He was twice married, first to the late Doris Gambrell.
Surviving are his wife of the home, two daughters, Diane Davenport and husband Perry of Honea Path and Elaine Mills of Anderson, a brother Johnny Shaw of Iva, five sisters, Bobbie Shaw of Anderson, Frances Bryant of Anderson, Sara Merck of Six Mile, Mary Davis of Ware Shoals, and Venice Smith of Honea Path, two grandchildren, Jason Davenport and Jamie Hawkins, and one great-grandson, Remington Billy Davenport. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jerry and Walter Gambrell.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Friday, April 19, 2013 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Ellenberg and Rev. Bill Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.
