Born in Passaic, NJ, he was the son of the late Vincent James Spoto, Jr. and Marion Lukas Spoto. He was of the Catholic faith and was a truck driver.

Surviving are one brother; Michael Spoto of Pequannock, NJ, one sister; Janine Spoto of Flemington, NJ.
