Born in Abbeville county, he was a son of the late Mark McIlwain and Florence Strawhorn Gordon. He was a member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon, and in various other capacities. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from CPW.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are one son: Steve Gordon and wife Sheri of Lexington; and one granddaughter, Allie Gordon.

He was predeceased by one brother: Harry Gordon.

Funeral Services will be held at Ware Shoals First Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 21 at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Leon Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Oakbrook Memorial Park.
