James Cooper

Greenwood – James Alexander Cooper, 89, widower of Elizabeth Timms Cooper, of 2281 Montague Avenue Ext., died Saturday June 23, 2012 at Wesley Commons.

Born in Ware Shoals and reared in the Nations Road Community, he was a son of the late Alexander Foster and Ruby Murff Cooper. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and retired from Riegel Textile Corporation with 38 years service. He was an avid gardener and Clemson Tiger supporter.

He was a US Army veteran of WWII where he served in the European Theater of Operations as an infantryman. After being injured in battle, he went on to serve as a Military Police Officer in General George Patton’s Home Guard until his discharge.

He is survived by a son, Keith Cooper of Greenwood.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Parker-White Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Lethco and Rev. George Hill officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
