Ann Lake

Ware Shoals – Ann Ellison Lake, 82, wife of Dr. John H. Lake, of 38 E. Summit Dr., died Sunday, January 22, 2012.

 Born in Easley, S.C., she was a daughter of  Clarence Matthew and Catherine “Kate” Mullinix Ellison. She was a graduate of Easley High School and Columbia College where she earned her degree in Library Science. She taught school and served as librarian in the Columbia, Ware Shoals, and Montgomery, Alabama areas.

Mrs. Lake was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ware Shoals where she taught the Ladies’ Hebron Bible Class for several years and sang in the choir.

She was a Past President of the South Carolina Dental Auxiliary, served on the Heritage Corridor Board, and was a member of the Ware Shoals Women’s Civic Club. She also served on the Board of Visitors at Winthrop College.

Mrs. Lake was an elegant lady and a warm and gracious hostess to all who came to her home.

In addition to her husband of 59 years, Mrs. Lake is survived by her two sons, John Campbell Lake and wife Debbie of Ware Shoals, and Matthew E. Lake and wife Tracey of Easley as well as seven grandchildren, Katie Lake Pulley and husband BJ of Greenwood, Dr. John C. Lake, Jr. and wife Katherine of Honolulu, HI., Anna E. Lake, JD of Washington, D.C., Dr. Will Lake of Charleston, Zac Lake of Ware shoals, Samantha Lake and Audra Lake, both of Easley.

She was predeceased by a brother, Melvin “Doc” Ellison, and two sisters, Sara Pitts and Elizabeth Ellison.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 2 P.M. at Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church. Committal services will be held at 4 P.M. Wednesday at Whitmire City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 P.M. Wednesday at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be sent to the Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church, Box 542, Ware Shoals, SC 29692. The family is at the home. Online condolences may be made at www.ParkerWhitePruitt.com
