Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Willis and Essie Mae Risner Brown. She was a member of Cross Hill Church of God. She was a retired schoolteacher and librarian having taught at Starr Elementary School. She was a graduate of Erskine College and had served as president of the N.E.A.
Surviving are two brothers, John Walter Brown and Frank Brown, both of Belton, and a sister, Opal McAlister of Anderson, several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Sandi Niosi and children, Valerie and Richard, and great nephews, Braxton and Cole.
Funeral services will be held at 4 PM Tuesday at Cross Hill Church of God with Rev. John Christmas officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
