Honea Path – Eleanor Ashley DeVore, 84, widow of Elbert Otis DeVore, Jr. M.D., of 1 Devore Lane, died Thursday, October 27, 2011.
Born in Honea Path, she was a daughter of the late James Oscar “Fert” and Julia Wilson Ashley. She was an active member of Honea Path First Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday school for 55 years. Mrs. DeVore was past president of the Young At Heart, the WMU, and served as Vacation Bible School Director. She had served on the Bereavement, Personnel, and Pulpit Committees. A graduate of Honea Path High School and Furman University, she was a retired school teacher, having taught in Greenville and Charleston Counties, and was retired from Anderson District #2. She was a member and past president of the Dogwood Garden Club.
Surviving are three sons, Elbert Otis “Skipper” DeVore III and wife Teresa of Anderson, Millard Filmore DeVore and wife Kim of Honea Path, James Dale DeVore and wife Susie of Honea Path; one daughter, Ashley DeVore Dobbins and husband Harold of Simpsonville; one sister, Mildred Ashley Webb of Easley; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, George Dale Ashley, Sr., Carol Oscar Ashley, and a sister Lou Ashley Milling.
Funeral Services will be held at 3PM Sunday, October 30, 2011, at Honea Path First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Moody officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories.
Pallbearers will be Bryan DeVore, Josh DeVore, Adam DeVore, Brooks DeVore, Berkeley King and Butler Sprouse.
The families are at their respective homes and will receive friends from 1 – 2:45 PM at the church prior to the service.
