Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Alver and Lucille Ricketts Ashley.  He was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church and was retired from the Oxford Shirt Plant. 

Surviving are his wife of the home, a daughter, Cathy Ann Smith of Piedmont, three step-sons, David Watkins of Waterloo, Chad Allen  and Tim Allen, both of Williamston, four step-daughters, Kaye Perrin of Greenwood, Lynn Bannister of Hodges, Kathy Dyches of Easley, and Patsy Wright of Sandy Springs, two brothers, David Vance “Skeet” Ashley and Lynn Ashley, both of Honea Path, two sisters, Edna Nimmons and Margaret Gambrell, both of Honea Path, eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday at Big Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Mitch Gambrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Thursday at Pruitt Funeral Home in Honea Path. The body will be placed in the church at 10 AM on Friday. Online condolences may be made at www.ParkerWhitePruitt.com
