Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Paul Kay and Zora Bell Atkin Gambrell. He was a member of New BankLick Baptist Church in Independence, KY. He formerly pastored the following Baptist Churches; Mush Creek in Travelers Rest, Rehobeth in Piedmont, Mallory Baptist in Mallory, NY, Owingsville First in Owingsville, KY, Beacon Hill in Somerset, KY, and First Baptist in Miamisburg, Ohio where he was elected Pastor Emeritus. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, WWII.

Surviving in addition to his wife are: one son, Ansel David Gambrell of Independence, KY; two daughters, Sandra Nell Gambrell of Independence, KY and Patricia Kay Allen of Bellbrook, Ohio; one brother, George Gambrell of Cleveland, Ga; two sisters, Ellen Wells of Greenwood and Alma Malone of Greenville and four grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 2 PM Sunday at Chiquola Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Ellison and Rev. Dan Boineau officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories.

The family will receive friends Saturday at Chiquola Baptist Church from 6-8 PM.
