J. Harold Balentine
Ware Shoals – James Harold Balentine, 82, widower of Shirley Holcombe Balentine, of 1 Higgins Drive, died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at his home.
Born in Ware Shoals, he was a son of the late William Leander (Lee) and Annie Boyce Manly Balentine. He was a member of the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Korea. He retired from Riegel Textile Co. and had worked for 40 years as a textile engraver with Ware Shoals Engraving Co. and Riegel Textile Co. He was a Mason, and a member of the Ware Shoals Lodge #306 A.F.M. He served as councilman on the first Council of the Town of Ware Shoals and was a former Mayor Pro Tem. He was a former EMT, former director of the Southeast Federal Credit Union, and had served for 21 years on the Abbeville County Commission of Alcohol and Drug Abuse. He worked for many years after retirement with Parker-White Funeral Home.
Surviving are one son, James H. (Bo) Balentine and wife Angie of Ware Shoals, a daughter, Vicki Lynn Balentine Vetter and husband Dennis of Greenwood, two brothers, Manly Balentine and Warren (Buddy) Balentine both of Ware Shoals, a sister, Ann Balentine Mahaffey of Ware Shoals and 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday at Ware Shoals First Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Jones and Rev. Scott Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
