Eloise Thornton

Honea Path – Mrs. Syble Eloise Griffin Thornton, 78, of 306 Oak Drive Ext., wife of Robert Leon “Shorty” Thornton, died May 20, 2010 at Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia.

Born in Pelzer, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Rev. O.C. and Rosa Lusk Griffin. She was a member of Chiquola Baptist Church and was retired from Riegel Textile Co.

Surviving are her husband of the home; a daughter, Elaine Thornton Johnson of Ballentine; two sisters, Martha Butler of Greenwood and Margie Ware of Honea Path; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by three brothers, L.G., Orvin, Jr., and Walder Griffin.

Funeral Services will be held 3 PM Monday at Chiquola Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Lee Powell and Rev. Brad Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery.
