Walt Hughes
Honea Path – Walter Eugene Hughes, 88, formerly of Honea Path, died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
Born in Pelzer, he was the son of the late Paul and Lyda Wilson Hughes. He was a member of Neals Creek Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the European Theatre with the Third Army. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge under Gen. George Patton.
Surviving are one son, Derrell Hughes and wife Sandra of Anderson; two daughters, Evelyn Hughes of Honea Path and Caroline Nalley and husband Mike of Honea Path; four grandchildren, Thomas Williams and wife Tonya, Lisa Campbell and husband Patrick, John Nalley, and Jeremy Nalley and wife Kelli; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Slatten officiating. A private committal will be held at a later date at Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
