Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of th late Alver and Lucille Thelma Ricketts Ashley. He worked in manufacturing and as a carpenter. He loved working with his hands, woodworking, crafting, and tinkering. He was a long-time fan of Dale Earnhardt and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Mr. Ashley is survived by his daughter Teresa Burdette (Dwayne) of Honea Path; his sister Edna Nimmons of Honea Path; three grandchildren: Jeffrey Burdette (Jennifer), Ashley Smalley (Brandon) and Bradley Burdette (Tristan); and four great-grandchildren: Lacey Burdette, Luke Burdette, Renley Smalley and Banks Smalley.

He was preceded in death by six brothers: James, Ralph, Jerry, Albert, Dale and David “Skeet” Ashley; and his sister Margaret Gambrell.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 8 at Pruitt Funeral Home with Rev. Rickey Knight officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Teresa Burdette, and will receive friends Wednesday night from 6-8 at Pruitt Funeral Home.
