Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late James Marvin and Edna Ruth Hanley Cannon. He was a member of Crossroads Fellowship Church and was a retired State Trooper with the S.C. Highway Patrol after a 25 years career. Doug also previously served as a state constable for The Town of Honea Path Police Department. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Doug loved fishing and having a garden, especially his tomatoes.

Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 58 years of the home are; his son, Carey (Jennifer) Cannon of Kernersville N.C.; his daughter, Kim (Shane) Whitt of Honea Path; his brother, Donnie (Beth) Cannon of Abbeville; six grandchildren, Rylan (Nate) Ledford, Shanie (Logan) Shaw, Kiptyn Whitt, Jessica (Wesley) Hicks, Gracyn (Ridge) Chandler Stanley, and Julianne (Carson) Alexander; and twelve great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday April 26, 2026 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery.
