Born in Wrightsville, GA, he was a son of the late Willie Dewell and Vida Lee Burns Martin. He attended Greenwood Presbyterian Church and Calvary Chapel Greenwood. He was retired from his work as a Systems Analyst for Norfolk Southern Railway, and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Mr. Martin is survived by his daughter Robin Walenceus and husband Randy of Greenwood; his six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Harold Ashley Martin and James Rewell Martin and his sister Carolyn Woods.
