Born in Auburn, Alabama on April 3, 1946, he was a son of the late William Bringhurst and Julia Elizabeth Bugbee McGehee.
A graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School in Asheville, NC and Auburn University, he received his Master’s degree in Human Resource Development from Clemson University. He was a veteran of the US Army Reserve. Pat began his career at Piedmont Technical College in 1979 as Evening Director of Academic Services. With the expansion of the college into surrounding counties, he assumed responsibility for centers in Edgefield, Newberry and Saluda counties as Associate Dean. He later became Dean of the Newberry County Center and, working closely with the Newberry County Council, was instrumental in its development. He was always an advocate for his students and their success, and received the PTC Presidential Medallion in 2002.
Active in his community as well as in college committees, he chaired Greenwood County’s Tax Appeals Committee, was a board member of the Greenwood Toros Soccer Club, a member of the Promised Land Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Animal Care and Use Committee for Diana Pet Food, and a member of The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.
Pat loved his family, his animals and his Auburn Tigers, “War Damn Eagle.” He also loved traveling, particularly his trips with his father and his son to Europe and Australia.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Michele (Shelli) McGehee Gray, David Patrick McGehee (Kacey), Emily Elizabeth McGehee and a brother, William McGehee II. He was known as PatPat to his eight grandchildren; Corey King (Larkin), Stokes Gray, Nicholas Gray, Grace Kitely, Chase McGehee, Finley McGehee, Brylee Dickson, Bristol Dickson; great grandchildren, Cooper King and Callan King and his beloved dog Rudy.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 700 South Main St., Greenwood, SC 29646. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Greenwood Humane Society, 2820 Airport Road, Greenwood, SC 29649
