Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Lavenia Dutton Lawson. She was a member of the Ware Shoals Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are her husband of the home, a son, Jonathan Lee Owens (Ashley) of Ware Shoals, a brother, James Brown (Dede) of Ware Shoals, two sisters, Dianne Gunter (Jeff) of Waterloo and Angie Bott (Greg) of Hood River, Oregon, and a granddaughter, Savannah Owens. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Ken Dutton and a sister, Rene Tumblin.
