Born in West Virginia, he was a son of Catherine Maxey of  Rockingham, N.C., and the late John Brown. He was retired from Vulcan Materials Co. and attended Gethsemane Church.

Surviving in addition to his mother are three sons, Joseph Brown, Patrick (Brandi) Brown, and Kevin (Kelly)  Brown, all of Hodges; a daughter, Heather (Rickey) Merritt of Ware Shoals,; four brothers, Leon (Saundra) Brown of Greenwood, Ronnie Brown of Coal Mountain, W. Va., Junior Brown of Lester W.Va., and Doug Maxey of Rockingham, N.C.; three sisters, Susie Addison of Ikes Fork, W.Va., Polly (Steve) Hatfield of Coal Mountain, W.Va., and Martha (Lewis) Brown of Coal Mountain, W.Va.; and five grandchildren, Kendel Brown, Justin Brown, Jacob Brown, Alyssa Brown and Courtney Brown. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Roger Wallace.

Memorial services will be held at 5 P.M. Wednesday, March 11. 2015 at Parker-White Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Lowe officiating. The family is at the home and will receive friends from 4 to 5 P.M.
